Description
Edradour from the distillery, a 22 year old, from 1999, cask 830 & 832, at 55.2%, 567 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt from a 19th century farm distillery run by a handful of hands. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry.
Distilled from unpeated malt in tiny copper stills and worm tubs, for a rich, nutty spirit with a waxy depth. It was matured in a Barolo cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, fig and a chocolate depth over the oily softness. Long ageing turns the rich make towards dried fruit, fig and a soft spice. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way.
At cask strength 55.2% it is big and oily. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with a dry, cherry and tannic edge from the cask. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. A rich finish ends on dried fruit and a soft oak. This is the little gem of the Highlands at Pitlochry.
