Description
This official Edradour, a 22 year old, from 1984, cask 06/0090/1, at 48.2%, 669 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt from a 19th century farm distillery run by a handful of hands. It keeps the old ways, with an open cast iron mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers.
Distilled slowly in the old farm stillhouse on Ben Vrackie water, for the rich, oily make Edradour is known for. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the rich spirit. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit and beeswax. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. A rare Morton refrigerator still cools the wort, one of the last in use in Scotland. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore.
At 48.2%, undiluted, it is deep and concentrated. A rich, oily orchard fruit and almond, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A long, nutty finish carries dried fruit and a soft spice. This is Edradour's full bodied, sherried Highland style.
