Ballechin from the distillery, an 11 year old, from 2010, cask 273, at 53.6%, 244 bottles in all. Ballechin is a heavily peated Highland single malt made at Edradour near Pitlochry. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.

The spirit was distilled slowly from peated malt in the old farm stillhouse, giving a rich, peated Highland spirit. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) join the smoke, the dried fruit deepening beneath. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. Its peated make, Ballechin, is named after a long extinct peated farm distillery a few miles away. It was bought in 2002 by Andrew Symington of the independent bottler Signatory Vintage.

At 53.6%, undiluted, it is deep and concentrated. A smoky, fruity richness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath the smoke run dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oil. It finishes long, rich and smoky. This is Ballechin, Edradour's peated single malt.
