Description
A 7 year old Dalmunach from the independent Dràm Mòr, distilled in 2016, from cask 670, bottled at 58.4%, one of 254 bottles. Dalmunach rose in 2015 where Imperial once stood, a modern Speyside distillery by the Spey. The name comes from the Dalmunach pool, a stretch of the Spey beside the distillery.
Worked through the distillery's eight stills for a fruity, light spirit, to build a fruity, grassy character. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh character to the fore. Bottled young and extractive, the oak gives quick vanillin (vanilla) and oak lactones (coconut) over a lively, fruity malt. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the warehouses by the Spey. Refill oak lets the fresh Dalmunach character lead, apple and citrus beneath. Dalmunach's modern, efficient stillhouse gives a consistent, fruity spirit. Its eight stills stand in a striking circular cluster around a central spirit safe, a showpiece of modern design.
Bottled at a cask strength 58.4%, it is rich. A bright, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A green apple and a gentle spice lift it. The close is clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a clean Speyside single malt from a modern distillery.
