Description
Scotland's oldest independent bottler Cadenhead's bottled this Dalmore, a 24 year old, distilled in 1989, bottled at 46.6%, one of 312 bottles. Dalmore is a Highland distillery on the Cromarty Firth, famous for its rich, heavily sherried single malt. Its flat topped wash stills and water jacketed spirit stills build a thick, rich, oily spirit.
Distilled for the thick, full bodied spirit Dalmore is known for, for a heavy, rich make that suits aged sherry wood. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, vanilla and a soft orange behind the rich spirit. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, fig, coffee and a treacly depth over a rich malt. The full bodied make rewards a long, sherried maturation in good wood. The cool Highland air on the firth gives a slow, even maturation. Much of its sherry comes from aged Oloroso casks, the Matusalem, Apostoles and Amoroso butts of Gonzalez Byass.
Bottled at 46.6%, it is rounded. A rich, oily chocolate orange, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked fruit and a warm spice lift it. The finish is deep, sherried and dark. This is a chocolate, orange and dried fruit Highland single malt.
