An 18 year old Caperdonich from the distillery at 48%. A creamy Speyside fruit, all pear, vanilla and a mint lift. Water came from the Caperdonich Burn, the secret well above Rothes. With the distillery gone, every bottle is from a finite, dwindling stock. One of Speyside’s lost distilleries, silent since 2002. This is a rare single malt from a distillery now gone.

Description
An official release of Caperdonich, an 18 year old, cask Batch CP/006, at 48%. Caperdonich is a closed Speyside distillery, its stock now finite and dwindling. It was rarely bottled as a single malt in its lifetime, so most come from independents.
Made in tall copper stills for a light, fruity spirit, for a delicate Speyside spirit with a creamy lift. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the spirit lead. In the oxidative middle years oxidation draws out waxy tropical fruit, vanillin and lactones fully expressed. Years in oak round the spirit, the pear and cream deepening with age. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, which is why it suits both bourbon and sherry. The light, creamy spirit takes cask flavour readily while keeping its pear and mint. The tall, Glen Grant style stills give a light spirit that ages with grace. A few warehouses still stand, but the stillhouse and kiln are long gone. No more will ever be made, the distillery silent since 2002.
At its natural 48% it is concentrated. Soft pear, cream and a waxy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Mango, pear and a soft vanilla fill the middle. The finish is deep, waxy and tropical. This is a waxy, pear scented Speyside single malt.
