Description
This is a Tormore single malt, chosen and bottled by 82 Chapters to Newcastle (82NC), a 14 year old and bottled at 60.4%. Just 160 bottles were filled. Tormore was opened in 1960 on the A95 in the heart of Speyside, and it is now owned by Elixir Distillers. The distillery is sometimes called the white cathedral of Speyside for its grand design.
Distilled in swan neck stills fitted with purifiers, on soft Achvochkie Burn water, giving the structured, nutty Speyside spirit. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the nutty malt. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper, nuttier fruit. A slightly oily texture carries the cask flavour over the clean spirit. The new owners released a Blueprint Series of 10 year olds in 2025 ahead of a full range. Its rise in 1958 broke a long pause in distillery building that had lasted decades.
At cask strength 60.4% it is muscular yet clean. The Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, nutty character. A dried fruit and a dry oak spice give it depth. A long, nutty finish carries a citrus lift. This is a structured, nutty Speysider.
