This Tomatin was from the independent bottler High Spirits Distribution, aged 14 year old from 2009, drawn from cask 1834 and bottled at 50%. The outturn was 328 bottles. Set in the Highland hills south of Inverness, Tomatin has made single malt since 1897. A very long fermentation, among the longest in Scotch, builds the fruity character.

Worked through onion stills for a light, fruity spirit, for the soft, fruity Highland make Tomatin is known for. A wine cask shaped it, the fruit meeting the soft spirit. Around the mid teens the malt gains a fuller honey and ripe fruit. The unpeated spirit lets the wood and the fruit speak without smoke. Tomatin stands at over three hundred metres, among the highest in the land. An old cattle drovers' road ran through Tomatin, and whisky was made here long before the distillery. The arrival of the Highland Railway in the 1890s made the distillery possible. It closed in 1906 and reopened in 1909, finding its feet over the following decades.

At 50%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. A mellow, fruity character, and the wine cask lends red berry and a dry spice. Beneath it run apple, pear and a soft spice. It closes soft, fruity and warm. This is Tomatin, the fruity Highland malt.
