Description
This is a Teaninich single malt, released by Global Whisky Limited, an 11 year old from 2010, drawn from cask 706527 and bottled at 58.6%. A release of 285 bottles. Teaninich, a large Highland distillery beside the River Averon at Alness, was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro. Its make is a key part of Johnnie Walker, Haig and VAT 69.
Mashed through a mash filter for an ultra clear wort and distilled in fat copper stills, giving the fresh, green spirit at its heart. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the green character to the fore. Younger here, it keeps a clean, grassy freshness over a waxy texture. Long, gentle ageing turns the cut grass towards honey and soft fruit. The Munro family ran the distillery through two generations before selling. The Cromarty Firth nearby is one of few UK waters home to bottlenose dolphins. A long fermentation of around 75 hours builds the fresh, fruity notes.
At a hearty 58.6% it carries real weight. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with citrus, cut grass and a waxy lift. It is fresh and clean, the green spirit shining through. The close is fresh, grass over gentle oak. This is the green, waxy malt of Alness.
