Description
Single malt Tamdhu, an independent Berry Bros & Rudd bottling, aged 10 year old from 2013, drawn from cask 2464 and bottled at 62.9%. Set in Knockando, in the heart of Speyside, Tamdhu has distilled since 1897. The old Knockando railway station serves as the distillery's visitor centre.
The spirit was run through the distillery's onion shaped stills, and laid down in Oloroso casks for its sherried depth. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the sherry bright over orchard fruit. The full bodied make carries the sherry cask well across long maturation. The distillery was built on a spot once known for illicit distilling. A full, fruity spirit gives Tamdhu the weight to carry active sherry wood. An in house cooperage was set up in 2019 to manage its sherry casks. Tamdhu sits among the great sherried Speysiders, a sister to Macallan in style.
At a hearty 62.9% it carries real weight. The ex-Bourbon adds vanilla, cream and orchard fruit. It is deep and fruity, the sherry and oak well matched. A long, sherried finish carries a nutty depth. This is the sherry cask malt of Knockando.
