Description
A distillery bottling of Tamdhu, aged 13 year old from 2013, drawn from cask 2197 and bottled at 58.9%. A release of 345 bottles. Founded in 1897 in Knockando, Speyside, Tamdhu is a sherry led Speyside malt. Water comes from the Tamdhu Spring, the distillery set on the banks of the Spey.
The spirit was made in copper stills and filled into sherry seasoned oak, for a fragrant, fruity spirit with weight for the cask. An Oloroso sherry cask wrapped the malt in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Mid age brings a deeper sherry and a riper dried fruit note. Long ageing turns the orchard fruit towards fig, raisin and a warm spice. The distillery was built on a spot once known for illicit distilling. A full, fruity spirit gives Tamdhu the weight to carry active sherry wood. An in house cooperage was set up in 2019 to manage its sherry casks. Tamdhu sits among the great sherried Speysiders, a sister to Macallan in style.
At a natural 58.9% it is full and rich. The Oloroso brings a rich, sherried fruitiness. The mouthfeel is rich, the fruit carried on a sherried body. The finish runs rich, nutty and spiced. This is a sherry matured Speyside single malt.
