Description
A distillery bottling of Tamdhu, a 10 year old and bottled at 40%. Tamdhu was first built in 1897 by a blending consortium on the banks of the Spey in Speyside, and it has been the sherried face of Speyside since its revival. Water comes from the Tamdhu Spring, the distillery set on the banks of the Spey.
Distilled in copper onion stills on Tamdhu Spring water, for a rich Speyside spirit built to take sherry wood. An Oloroso sherry cask wrapped the malt in dried fruit and a nutty depth. At a youthful age the fruit is vivid and the sherry clear. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and spice deepening with age. The distillery was built on a spot once known for illicit distilling. A full, fruity spirit gives Tamdhu the weight to carry active sherry wood. An in house cooperage was set up in 2019 to manage its sherry casks. Tamdhu sits among the great sherried Speysiders, a sister to Macallan in style.
Reduced to 40%, it is mellow. The Oloroso brings fig, raisin and a gentle ginger. The mouthfeel is rich, the fruit carried on a sherried body. A long, sherried finish carries a nutty depth. This is a sherry matured Speyside single malt.
