An official Tamdhu single malt matured to 8 year old and bottled at 70%. Tamdhu was opened in 1897 in Knockando, Speyside; it once ran the last Saladin box maltings in Scotland. Mothballed in 2010, the distillery was revived by Ian Macleod, who relaunched the single malt in 2013.

The spirit was made in copper stills and filled into sherry seasoned oak, for a fragrant, fruity spirit with weight for the cask. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and honey. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the sherry bright over orchard fruit. First fill Oloroso casks drive the rich, dried fruit character Tamdhu is known for. Tamdhu was built in 1897 by a consortium of blenders led by William Grant. The arrival of the Strathspey railway in the 1860s made the distillery possible. For decades its malt fed blends such as the Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark. Mothballed in 2010, the distillery was revived by Ian Macleod and relaunched in 2013.

At a natural 70% it is full and rich. The ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and apple over the malt. A dried fruit and a nutty oak give it real depth. Fig, raisin and oak see out a long finish. This is a dried fruit rich Speyside malt.
