Description
This Talisker was from the independent bottler Douglas Laing matured to 8 year old from 2010, drawn from cask DL 13454 and bottled at 48.4%. The outturn was 383 bottles. Opened at Carbost in 1831 at Carbost on the Isle of Skye, Talisker is the maritime malt of Skye. Talisker is made by the sea, its character drawn from the wild Skye coast.
The spirit was made in tall pot stills with purifier loops and worm tubs, from medium peated malt, for a smoky, oily, peppery spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, vanilla beneath the maritime smoke. Still young, the malt is smoky and peppery with a coastal punch. Long maturation softens the peat into a mellow smoke over the maritime spirit. The distillery faces the water across to the hills of Skye. Talisker is made by the sea, and matured within reach of the salt air. The signature is a black pepper kick, the so called chilli catch, over maritime smoke.
At a full 48.4% it is concentrated and oily. A smoky, briny depth with a chilli catch sit over light oak sweetness beneath the peat. A maritime salt and a chilli warmth give it real punch. A long, peppery finish smoulders to the end. This is the wild maritime malt of Skye.
