Description
This official Talisker single malt, aged 30 year old and bottled at 45.8%. Only 9078 bottles were released. Talisker was established in 1830 on the storm battered coast of Skye; its peppery maritime malt is loved the world over. Medium peated malt from Glen Ord gives the smoke, around eighteen to twenty two parts per million.
Distilled on Hawk Hill water through worm tub condensers, building the bold maritime style Talisker is loved for. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the smoky spirit. Very old Talisker turns profound, oily and smoky yet soft and waxy. The rich, oily make carries cask flavour while holding its peppery edge. Medium peated malt from Glen Ord gives the smoke, the water from the Hawk Hill springs. After a stillhouse fire in 1960, the five stills were rebuilt as exact replicas. The distillery faces the water across to the hills of Skye.
At 45.8% it is supple and smoky. The Oloroso brings smoked dried fruit and a nutty depth, and smoke, salt and a warming pepper, with a touch of vanilla and oak sweetness. Soft smoke and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. Smoke, brine and pepper draw out the close. This is a smoky, peppery Island whisky.
