Description

A distillery bottling of Talisker matured to 10 year old from 2010, drawn from cask TD-S: 5WI and bottled at 45.8%. Talisker was founded in 1830 by the MacAskill brothers at Carbost on the Isle of Skye, and it is a Diageo Classic Malt and the island's standard bearer. Water comes from the Cnoc nan Speireag, the Hawk Hill, springs above the distillery.

The spirit was made in tall pot stills with purifier loops and worm tubs, from medium peated malt, for a smoky, oily, peppery spirit. A sherry cask held it, sherry and smoke twining together. At a youthful age the smoke runs bold and the brine bright. Long ageing turns the smoke gentle while the pepper lingers. Founded by the MacAskill brothers in 1830, it is Skye's oldest distillery. The worm tubs build the full, oily body that carries the smoke and pepper.

At 45.8% it is balanced and peppery. The Oloroso brings smoked dried fruit and a nutty depth, and sea brine, smoke and a black pepper kick ride over light oak sweetness beneath the peat. The mouthfeel is oily, the smoke carried on a peppery body. A long, peppery finish smoulders to the end. This is Skye's famous peppery single malt.
