Description
A distillery bottling of Talisker, aged 13 year old from 1988, drawn from cask TD-S: 5CO and bottled at 45.8%. Talisker was founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill at Carbost on the Isle of Skye; it is the oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye. Its 10 year old was chosen as the Island malt of Diageo's Classic Malts series.
The spirit was made in tall pot stills with purifier loops and worm tubs, from medium peated malt, for a smoky, oily, peppery spirit. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the smoky spirit. Mid age brings a deeper, oilier smoke and a warming peppery lift. Long ageing turns the smoke gentle while the pepper lingers. The signature is a black pepper kick, the so called chilli catch, over maritime smoke. Founded by the MacAskill brothers in 1830, it is Skye's oldest distillery.
Reduced to 45.8%, it is mellow. The Oloroso brings smoked dried fruit and a nutty depth, and a coastal peat smoke and a peppery lift ride over light oak sweetness beneath the peat. The texture is oily and full, the smoke threaded with salt. Pepper and sea salt see out a long finish. This is Talisker's smoky, peppery Skye style.
