Description
This official Talisker single malt, a 12 year old release and bottled at 43.4%. Talisker was first built in 1830 on the storm battered coast of Skye, and it has captured the wild spirit of Skye since 1830. Medium peated malt from Glen Ord gives the smoke, around eighteen to twenty two parts per million.
Distilled on Hawk Hill water through worm tub condensers, building the bold maritime style Talisker is loved for. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak under the smoke. By this age the peat softens into a rounded smoke with brine and citrus. The rich, oily make carries cask flavour while holding its peppery edge. Carbost is a tiny port on the wild west coast of Skye. The peat is medium rather than heavy, leaving the smoke balanced and coastal. Talisker was for nearly two centuries the only working distillery on the Isle of Skye. Its 10 year old is the Island malt of Diageo's Classic Malts selection.
At 43.4% it is balanced and peppery. Smoke, salt and a warming pepper, with a touch of vanilla and oak sweetness. Soft smoke and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. The finish is long, smoky and peppery. This is a smoky, peppery Island whisky.
