Description
This Talisker, an official release, a 10 year old Skye malt and bottled at 45.8%. Talisker was founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill on the Minginish peninsula of Skye; it is the oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye. Talisker distilled three times until 1928, which is why it keeps two wash stills and three spirit stills.
The spirit was run through the unusual two and three still set up and cooled in worm tubs, for the rich, oily, peppery make at its heart. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a vanilla beneath the smoke. At a youthful age the smoke runs bold and the brine bright. The U shaped lyne arms add reflux and an oily refinement to the spirit. After a stillhouse fire in 1960, the five stills were rebuilt as exact replicas. The distillery faces the water across to the hills of Skye. Talisker is made by the sea, and matured within reach of the salt air.
Reduced to 45.8%, it is mellow. Soft vanilla and honey from the cask, while brine, citrus and a smoky pepper lead. It is bold and coastal, the peat and pepper to the fore. Smoke, brine and pepper draw out the close. This is a bold Island single malt from Carbost.
