Description
This official Talisker single malt, a 10 year old and bottled at 45.8%. Established in 1830 on the shore of Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye, Talisker is the maritime malt of Skye. For nearly two centuries it was the only working distillery on Skye, until Torabhaig opened in 2017.
It was worked through the distillery's looped stills and worm tubs, from medium peated malt, for the peppery, maritime spirit Talisker is known for. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the peppery character to the fore. At this age the smoke is vigorous and the pepper sharp over a briny spirit. Refill oak lets the distillery's peppery, briny character lead. For most of its life Talisker stood alone on Skye, until Torabhaig opened in 2017. Carbost is a tiny port on the wild west coast of Skye. The peat is medium rather than heavy, leaving the smoke balanced and coastal. Talisker was for nearly two centuries the only working distillery on the Isle of Skye.
At an approachable 45.8% it is balanced. Sea spray, smoke and cracked pepper, with a quiet vanilla from the barrel. Beneath the smoke run brine, citrus and a peppery oil. It finishes smoky, salty and warming. This is the peppery maritime malt of Skye.
