Description
An official Talisker single malt, a 9 year old release, drawn from cask Batch 2024/005 and bottled at 54.5%. Talisker was founded in 1830 by the MacAskill brothers at Carbost on the Isle of Skye, and it is a Diageo Classic Malt and the island's standard bearer. Talisker is made by the sea, its character drawn from the wild Skye coast.
The spirit was made in tall pot stills with purifier loops and worm tubs, from medium peated malt, for a smoky, oily, peppery spirit. Maturation in a fortified cask lent red fruit to the smoky spirit. Still young, the malt is smoky and peppery with a coastal punch. Long maturation softens the peat into a mellow smoke over the maritime spirit. Founded by the MacAskill brothers in 1830, it is Skye's oldest distillery. The worm tubs build the full, oily body that carries the smoke and pepper.
Undiluted at 54.5%, it is deep and smoky. The wine cask lends smoked red berry and spice, and a smoky, briny depth with a chilli catch sit over light oak sweetness beneath the peat. It is rich and smoky, the brine and oak well matched. A long, peppery finish smoulders to the end. This is the wild maritime malt of Skye.
