Description
This official Strathisla single malt, a 26 year old Speyside malt from 1992, drawn from cask 4384 and bottled at 57.7%. The outturn was 708 bottles. Strathisla, founded in 1786 on the banks of the Isla at Keith, is the home of Chivas Regal. Long scarce as an official bottling, Strathisla was for decades bottled mainly by Gordon and MacPhail.
The spirit was run through onion shaped stills with long necks for a rich make, to build a creamy, orchard fruit character. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the fruity character to the fore. Beyond twenty five years the malt grows deep and waxy, dried fruit, honey and almond over old oak. The cool Speyside climate gives a slow, even maturation over many years. The malt is the fruity heart of the Chivas Regal blend, owned by Chivas Brothers since 1950. Water comes from the Broomhill Spring, the distillery set on the River Isla at Keith.
Undiluted at 57.7%, it is layered. Apple, almond and a warm spice meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and almond sit behind the sweetness. A fruity, gently spiced finish lingers long. This is Strathisla's classic honeyed Speyside style.
