This is a Strathclyde single grain, chosen and bottled by The Caskhound, aged 29 year old from 1994, drawn from cask 456555 and bottled at 40.1%. Just 117 bottles were filled. Founded in 1927 on an old cotton mill site in Glasgow, Strathclyde is Glasgow's only grain distillery. Single grain releases are rare; this comes from an independent bottler rather than the distillery.

The spirit was run through column stills, an analyser and a rectifier, on Loch Katrine water, to build a soft, sweet grain character. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Beyond twenty five years the grain grows deep and oily, coconut, butterscotch and crème brûlée over polished oak. Long ageing turns light grain into a deep, oily, dessert sweet whisky. The continuous still gives a clean, high strength spirit that mellows with years. Strathclyde takes its name from the old region around Glasgow.

At a full 40.1% it is intense yet sweet. The Amontillado adds a dry, nutty, almond edge to the sweet grain. Soft toffee and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, sweet and buttery. This is an aged single grain from a Glasgow distillery.
