Springbank 21 Years Old 1995 Cask #HL12708 (Edition Spirits)

A Springbank single malt, selected and bottled by Edition Spirits matured to 21 year old from 1995, drawn from cask HL12708 and bottled at 49.9%. Only 160 bottles were released. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, prized for its rich, oily, hand made spirit. Hedley Wright's family has kept the distillery independent for the best part of two centuries.

It was run through the distillery's part triple distillation, the malt floor malted and gently peated, and condensed in traditional worm tubs. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. Long ageing brings an oily depth, candied fruit and a mellow coastal salt. Long maturation suits the heavy, characterful make, the cask knitting slowly with the spirit. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries at its peak. Today just three distilleries survive in the old Kintyre whisky town.

Bottled at a cask strength 49.9%, it is rich. A salty, waxy depth with a whisper of peat meet creamy vanilla and oak sweetness from the cask. Beneath it run oily fruit, salt and a coastal depth. It finishes deep, complex and maritime. This is a complex, coastal Campbeltown whisky.
