Description
An official Springbank single malt and bottled at 46%. Springbank has distilled in Campbeltown since 1828, a family distillery that malts and bottles every drop on site. The family owner also holds Cadenhead's, the oldest independent bottler in Scotland.
It was made by Springbank's singular two and a half times distillation, with the spirit condensed in worm tubs. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the spirit. Without an age statement, the malt is rich, salty and characterful. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. The town and the sea run through every cask of the make. The sea loch at the foot of the town shapes the coastal character of the malt. Demand far outstrips the small output, and bottles are keenly chased. Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn each show a different face of the one distillery. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch.
At 46% it is supple and briny. Creamy vanilla and oak sweetness meets a salty, waxy depth with a whisper of peat. A waxy weight and a saline tang give it real body. The finish runs deep, briny and warm. This is Springbank's rich, oily, maritime style.
