Description
An official Springbank single malt, a 12 year old release, drawn from cask Batch 12 and bottled at 54.1%. Springbank, run by J and A Mitchell since 1828 in Campbeltown, is a family distillery that malts and bottles every drop on site. The whole process, malting included, is carried out by hand on the one site.
This was run through the distillery's part triple distillation, the malt floor malted and gently peated, and slowly worm tub cooled. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Past a decade the oily spirit deepens, fruit and salt knitting with the oak. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the oily, complex core over time. The open larch washbacks are a rare survival in modern Scotch. The distillery has become a place of pilgrimage for whisky enthusiasts. Kintyre's damp, mild climate suits a long and gentle maturation. The old town of Campbeltown once rivalled Speyside as Scotland's whisky heart.
At a full 54.1% it is bold and oily. Dried fruit and a vanilla oak meets a salty, waxy depth with a whisper of peat. It is rich and layered, the fruit and salt well matched. A warming, oily finish lingers long. This is a hand made Campbeltown single malt.
