Description
A Speyburn single malt, selected and bottled by Cadenhead's matured to 15 year old from 1975 and bottled at 63.1%. Set in the Glen of Rothes on Speyside, Speyburn has distilled since 1897. Water comes from the Granty Burn, a clear tributary of the Spey.
Distilled in classic Speyside onion stills and condensed in traditional worm tubs, giving the fragrant, rounded spirit at its heart. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. By this age the fresh spirit rounds into heather honey and orchard fruit. Years in oak round the spirit, the honey and orchard fruit deepening with age. Hopkins also owned Tobermory on Mull when he built Speyburn in 1897. The cool Speyside glen gives a slow, even maturation in dunnage warehouses. Bradan Orach, the distillery's youngest core malt, is Gaelic for golden salmon. Speyburn sits in a wooded glen on the edge of Rothes, one of Speyside's prettiest distilleries.
At 63.1%, undiluted, it is deep and honeyed. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with apple, pear and heather honey. The mouthfeel is rounded, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. A warming, fruity finish lingers. This is a clean, fruity malt from the heart of Speyside.
