Description
Single malt Royal Brackla, an independent Duncan Taylor bottling matured to 10 year old from 2011, drawn from cask 93900067 and bottled at 53.8%. Only 390 bottles were released. Set on the Cawdor Estate near Nairn, Royal Brackla has distilled since 1812. It was the first Scotch whisky to hold a royal warrant, renewed by Queen Victoria in 1838.
It was distilled on Cawdor Burn water in tall copper stills, for the fruity, elegant spirit Royal Brackla is known for. A sherry cask shaped it, true to the Royal Brackla house style. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the orchard fruit and citrus bright. Refill oak holds back its sweetness, letting the elegant distillery character lead. Brackla earned the prefix Royal long before most distilleries had a brand at all. The malt is prized by blenders for its fragrant, fruity lift. Sherry and wine casks suit the elegant spirit, adding fruit and depth.
At a natural 53.8% it is full and fruity. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and a fruity, honeyed elegance meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. Beneath it run honey, apple and a warm spice. The close is warm, honey over soft oak. This is an elegant, fruity Highland single malt.
