Alistair Walker Whisky Company selected this Royal Brackla, a 14 year old release from 2006, drawn from cask 1803 and bottled at 57.8%. A release of 274 bottles. Royal Brackla was built in 1812 by Captain William Fraser on the Cawdor Estate of Macbeth fame, and its whisky won the first royal warrant ever given to a Scotch, from William IV. Cawdor Castle, said to inspire Shakespeare's Macbeth, stands on the same estate.

It was distilled twice on soft Cawdor Burn water, for a clean, floral spirit with a gentle spice. An American oak cask shaped it, flattering the elegant, fruity make. Mid age brings a fuller honey and a deeper dried fruit note. The cool Highland climate gives a slow, even maturation over many years. For generations the malt was a backbone of the Dewar's blends before its single malt revival. It is one of only three distilleries permitted to carry the Royal name in Scotch.

At its natural 57.8% it is concentrated. A gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood, with pear, honey and a warm spice. The texture is smooth and rounded, the fruit lifted by honey. A long, honeyed finish carries a fruity lift. This is Royal Brackla's refined Highland style.
