Auchentoshan Individual Cask Bottling 31 Years Old 1966

Bottled by Auchentoshan as part of the Individual Cask Bottling range from cask 800 of 1966 vintage stock, drawn at natural strength of 44.5% in 750ml format for the United States market. The Individual Cask Bottling programme was the distillery's first dedicated single cask range, presenting cask by cask releases from the long matured archive at Dalmuir.

Distilled in 1966 during the Eadie Cairns ownership era, the wash was made from 100% unpeated malted barley with Loch Cochno water from the Kilpatrick Hills, fermented around 62 hours across Douglas fir and stainless steel washbacks. Auchentoshan runs every drop through three copper pot stills, with the intermediate and spirit stages lifting the new make cut to around 81% ABV. The extra copper contact and higher cut strip sulphur compounds and fusel oils while concentrating light esters, giving a clean spirit base filled into a single ex Bourbon American oak cask.

Three decades of cool Lowland maturation drove slow, patient extraction. Lignin breakdown released vanillin while cis and trans oak lactones built coconut and sweet wood, and char layer interaction produced furfural with Maillard caramelised sugars. Natural strength of 44.5% reflects steady evaporative loss across the long maturation, with tertiary stage ester transformation integrating fruit and oak into a polished single cask profile.
