A 10 year old Ardmore released by Phil & Simon Thompson in 2019, distilled in 2008 and matured in American oak at 50.5% natural strength. The Thompson brothers, founders of Dornoch Distillery in the Scottish Highlands, have run an indie bottling programme under their own names alongside the farm distillery operation since the mid 2010s, with releases drawing from carefully selected single casks across multiple distilleries. The 2008 vintage falls in the early Beam Global ownership period at Kennethmont. 274 bottles for the French market.

Filled at 63.5% into American oak in 2008, the spirit matured at Kennethmont under the post 2001 steam heating regime. The American oak descriptor likely indicates a refill ex Bourbon barrel format, with ten years bringing the strength to 50.5% naturally and no chill filtration applied at bottling.

American oak maturation at this age frames distillery character cleanly. Cis whisky lactone gives soft coconut and pine, vanillin from oak lignin builds a baked custard register, syringaldehyde adds a hint of clove. Steam era distillate reads cleaner than coal era stock, with apple and pear esters from the Kerry yeast component sitting prominently at the centre. The 12 to 14 ppm peat phenols read as heather smoke, dry leaf and earthy phenolic at moderate integrated intensity rather than dominant smoke.
