Arran Single Cask 25 Years Old 1995

Cask 1995/399 was filled during the distillery's inaugural six months of production at Lochranza, following the start of distillation on 29 June 1995. The cask number 399 places it relatively late in the 1995 production year sequence given the distillery only began operations in late June. Matured for twenty five years in Oloroso seasoned wood, this release sits within the small surviving inventory of casks from the founding year, with such casks holding particular documentary significance as direct evidence of the new make character Lochranza produced under original distillery manager Gordon Mitchell.

Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 1995 under the direction of Gordon Mitchell, who had previously managed Cooley distillery in Ireland, and matured twenty five years in a single Oloroso seasoned cask. Bottled in 2021 at 49.3% without chill filtration and without added colour.

Twenty five years of Oloroso cask maturation on founding year Arran spirit produces a deeply integrated profile that documents the long oxidative development of one of the inaugural production parcels of the post 1837 Arran revival. The cask supplied sotolon, furfural, oxidised polyphenols and developed European oak compounds layer against the underlying 1995 new make character. Flavour profile: dried fruit, sherried, tobacco.
