Description
The 2005 vintage at Lochranza saw the distillery in its tenth full production year, with stabilised house signature output running through the established Gordon Mitchell era production template. Cask 2005/163 was filled in 2005 and matured eight years before being bottled in 2013 for an event specific release through the Private Cask programme. The 265 bottle outturn reflects the working yield of the single ex Bourbon hogshead at eight years.
Spirit was distilled at Lochranza in 2005 and matured eight years in a single ex Bourbon American oak cask. Bottled in 2013 at the natural cask strength of 54.3% without chill filtration and without added colour.
Eight years of ex Bourbon maturation produces early phase cask integration with the Arran spirit signature very visible. The American oak supplies vanillin, developing whisky lactones and the initial toasted sugar layer from hemicellulose breakdown. The 54.3% cask strength preserves the lipid fraction and the textural weight of the unfiltered spirit at the natural ABV of the working cask.
