A 6 Year Old French West Indies cane juice rhum bottled by L’Esprit at cask strength, dry and demanding with oak, roasted nuts, tar and dark chocolate over almost no residual sweetness at 58.3%.
Description
L'Esprit Single Estate French West Indies Rhum 2017 is an agricole made from fresh sugar cane juice, selected by Whisky & Rhum for its L'Esprit line and bottled at cask strength, 58.3%, after six years in ex-bourbon. It represents the drier, more austere face of cane juice rum, with no added sugar to soften the edges.
This is rhum on the herb and spice side, intense and uncompromising. The nose shows oak, roasted nuts, vanilla and dark chocolate, while the palate is roasted and tarry with tropical fruit and a marked barrel grip. The finish stays woody and spicy with more dark chocolate. There is real structure and a peppery bite here, the kind of bottling that asks the drinker to lean into its angles rather than smoothing them away. Those who love dry, characterful agricole at full proof will find plenty to chew on.
