A 1985 Long Pond bottled by the celebrated house of Velier at 12 years, intense and spicy despite reduced strength, with coconut, mango and grapes over a dry, astringent ester finish at 46%.
Description
Velier Long Pond Old Rum 1985 comes from Velier, the most prestigious name in collectible rum, and draws on Long Pond, the historic Trelawny Wedderburn house known for funky, fruit-forward pot-still spirit. Even at a reduced 46%, this older bottling stays intense and unmistakably Long Pond, with coconut, spice, grapes and mango on the nose.
Distilled from molasses on pot stills and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it turns dry and woody on the palate, with an astringent, ester-driven grip and a typically funky Long Pond character running through. The finish carries apple, more ester and that drying astringency. Bottled unsweetened at 46%, it shows how much pot-still personality survives dilution, an intense, spicy and characterful Long Pond from a bottler whose name alone signals seriousness about Jamaican rum.
