A 19 Year Old Velier Caroni at 55%, a friendlier blended heavy Trinidad rum leaning to fruity caramel, coconut and gentle tar over smoke and wood, unsweetened with well-integrated strength for relaxed sipping.
Description
Caroni, the closed Trinidad distillery rescued by Velier, is the most mythologised name in rum, though not every bottling is a full-proof monster. This blended release draws on the 1991 vintage, a heavy Trinidad rum aged 19 years and bottled at a comfortable 55%, presenting the distillery on its friendlier side.
Distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it leans toward fruity caramel, coconut and red fruit, with smoky vanilla, hazelnut and gentle tar and wood rather than the heaviest workshop funk. The palate is velvety and buttery, the Caroni DNA clearly present but smoothed out and rounded, the finish bringing vanilla, roast, raspberry and banana. The strength is well integrated and the whole reads as relaxed and easy-sipping. For drinkers who enjoy balanced rum and want real Caroni character without the full-proof intensity, this is an approachable, fruit-forward way into the style.
