Velier Caroni 37th Release Heavy Rum Guyana Stock (Magnum) HTR 1994

This is a Velier Caroni, the bottling that made the closed Trinidad distillery the most mythologised name in rum. The 37th Release is a Heavy 23 Year Old Caroni, vintage 1994, presented in magnum format from stock stored in Guyana and bottled at cask strength, 59%. Caroni closed in 2003, and Velier of Genoa, under Luca Gargano, championed tropical ageing and full-proof bottling of its rescued casks. From the prized heavy side, the signature is an industrial intensity, typically tar, diesel, burnt rubber and machine oil over dark tropical fruit, smoke, brine and deep oak. Expect that savoury, oily, petrol-and-fruit Caroni character at full power, a benchmark collector's pour from a finite source.
