A 29 Year Old Blairmont from 1982 at cask strength, rich and rounded with caramel, coconut and papaya on the nose before sweet raisin, dark chocolate and roasted fruit, a deeply aged single cask from Velier at 60.4%.
Description
Velier, the most prestigious name in collectible rum under Luca Gargano, bottled this 1982 Blairmont as a single cask, a 29 Year Old at a natural 60.4%. Blairmont is one of the closed Guyanese estates whose marque survives only through the heritage stills at Diamond, and a Velier bottling of this age and pedigree sits squarely in the house's old Demerara heartland.
The nose is generous with caramel, coconut, papaya and spice, and the palate is sweet and rounded, caramel and raisin leading into a warm, fruit-rich body that reins in its high proof with real poise. The finish brings dark chocolate, roasted notes and ripe fruit. This is the typical Demerara sweetness that comes from wood and long ageing rather than additives, the spirit staying drinkable and layered without ever turning banal. Three decades in cask have built genuine depth here, balanced and inviting in a way that makes you reach for a second pour. A benchmark old Guyana from the defining collector name.
