A cask strength Marie-Galante agricole from Velier’s Rhum Rhum Liberation at 58%, leaning dry and serious with honey, dried fruit, tobacco and herbs over oak rather than fruit, one for slow neat sipping.
Description
Rhum Rhum is the Marie-Galante collaboration between Velier and the late distiller Gianni Capovilla, made at Bielle from fresh pressed sugar cane, and this Liberation Integrale from 2020 is bottled at cask strength, 58%. Velier is the most respected name in collectible rum, and its Rhum Rhum line is prized for purity and depth rather than easy crowd appeal.
This release sits on the dry, oak forward side of the style, more contemplative than fruity. Expect honey, vanilla and dried fruits woven through herbs, tobacco and a touch of mineral bitterness, with a woody, herbal, barrel led finish. The pot still distillation lends a full, dense texture even as the profile stays serious and restrained. It is a glass for slow, neat sipping by drinkers who value structure and dryness over the grassy brightness of a young blanc.
