A 25 year old tropically aged Appleton pot still from 1998, dry and deep with orange zest, dark chocolate, dried fruit, polished wood and gentle esters, a high-strength single mark from Velier at 63%.
Description
This is a pot still Appleton from the 1998 vintage, released by Velier, the Genoese house regarded as the most prestigious name in collectible rum, in its acclaimed Hearts Collection of full-proof tropically aged Jamaican single marks. Where the standard Appleton blend leans on column distillate for smoothness, this isolates the estate's pot still spirit for far more weight and depth.
Distilled on the pot still from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon casks, it is bottled unsweetened at a robust 63% after 25 years of tropical ageing. The nose carries glue, licorice, tropical fruit, ginger and spice, the palate turns creamy and rich with caramel, dark chocolate, orange zest and dried fruit over polished wood, and the finish stays spicy, woody and coconut-edged. The long Caribbean maturation builds intensity and a complex orange-chocolate depth while the alcohol stays remarkably well folded in. A deep, dry, slow-sipping old Appleton, a standout pot still expression for experienced palates.
