A cask-strength Uitvlugt Demerara bottled for Tokyo’s Bar Lamp at a towering 72.6%, a single ex-bourbon cask from a closed Guyanese estate, refined and fruity in the Savalle-column house style.
Description
Uitvlugt was a coastal Guyanese estate whose Savalle column rums are prized for their clean, fruity, lightly spiced character, and its closure means every bottling is finite. This single cask, a 2007 vintage aged ten years in ex-bourbon and chosen for the Bar Lamp bar in Tokyo, lands at a fierce 72.6%, undiluted and unsweetened.
Uitvlugt sits at the lighter, cleaner end of the Demerara spectrum, so expect refined fruit, soft spice and molasses toffee over the tar and liquorice that define the heavier pot-still marques. At this strength water is a friend, and the ex-bourbon barrel would be expected to add vanilla and light oak. A purist, full-proof expression of a lost Guyanese distillery.
