A slightly understated old Demerara from the Port Mourant still, this 22 year single cask drinks easily at 51.9 percent with licorice, anise, orange peel and coffee over woody bitterness, classic PM character in a gentler key.
Description
The Wild Parrot bottled this single cask of Demerara Distillers spirit drawn off the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, the greenheart icon behind the heaviest and most aromatic Guyanese marque. At 22 years and a moderate 51.9 percent it presents the style in a restrained, accessible way rather than at full barrel force.
Matured in ex bourbon, the molasses distillate shows citrus, licorice and allspice on the nose, then a smoky, medicinal palate with orange peel and a coffee like bitterness, closing on anise, toast and dry wood. The Port Mourant signature is all there, if a touch quieter than the most intense examples, which makes for an easy drinking pour that does not overwhelm. It suits drinkers who already enjoy drier old Demerara and the licorice side of PM, and want a relaxed single cask to sip slowly.
