A cask strength side-by-side of Long Pond and Hampden in one glass, this 18 Year Old Whisky Jury blend pairs esters, glue and floral fruit with an oily, banana-and-citrus body, distilled on pot stills and bottled unsweetened at 54.2%.
Description
This 18 Year Old, bottled by The Whisky Jury as the fourth chapter of its Duo series, marries two Trelawny pot-still houses, Long Pond and Hampden, both distilled from molasses in 1998. Long Pond is the historic Wedderburn house, funky and fruit-forward, while Hampden is the high-ester benchmark, so the blend sets two of Jamaica's loudest distilleries against each other in a single bottling, matured in ex-bourbon at cask strength.
The nose carries esters, wood, glue and a floral note, the palate is oily and fresh with banana, and the finish stays oily and citrus-driven with more banana. Unsweetened and bottled at 54.2%, it drinks a touch younger and sharper than the age implies, the alcohol still assertive against the fruit. This is a fun, characterful pour for drinkers who already know both distilleries and want to taste their markers together.
