Description
The Rum Mercenary & Kintra Rum 2004 is a Venezuelan rum bottled at full strength from the 2004 vintage, a collaboration between two independent selectors. Unusually for the country, it is noted as a pot and column still blend rather than pure column spirit, which lends it a little more body than the typically light Venezuelan style.
Aged thirteen years in Ex-Bourbon oak, it shows caramel, coffee, dates and a varnish lift on the nose, then molasses, cola, sake and clove across the palate, finishing on milk chocolate, caramel and sweetness. Some find the alcohol not fully integrated and the caramel a touch dominant, but the dark, spicy character carries through. Its sugar status is undisclosed and the finish leans sweet, so a degree of richness sits over the spice.
