A woody, dessert leaning Panamanian column rum from the Bodegas de America stable, layering vanilla and dried fruit over cocoa, milk chocolate and a wisp of smoke, an easy 43% after dinner sipper in the sweeter Spanish style.
Description
The Demon's Share Reserva De Bodega is a 15 Year Old Panamanian ron built in the soft, mellow idiom that defines the country's output, distilled on column stills at Bodegas de America and matured in ex-bourbon oak. It sits a step above the brand's younger 12 Year Old, trading some of that sweetness for a more mature, woody backbone while keeping the strength at a comfortable 43%.
Molasses spirit and column distillation give a clean base, so the character here comes from the barrel: vanilla and dried fruit on the nose, then cocoa, chocolate and oak across the palate, closing on coffee, more chocolate and a thread of molasses. Sweetness sits in Zacapa territory, rounded and approachable rather than dry, with a light floral and smoky lift keeping it from turning flat. A relaxed winter pour for anyone who likes their rum smooth and rich rather than spirit forward.
