Terra Verde XO

Terra Verde XO is a Dominican molasses rum presented in the smooth, dark extra anejo style the region trades on, with no firm age statement behind the XO designation. It belongs firmly in the after-dinner, dessert-leaning camp rather than among dry, spirit-forward bottlings.

Distilled from molasses in the soft Spanish manner, the nose offers dried fruit, wood and allspice, but the palate is where its character shows, heavily sweet with sugar, maple and honey carrying through to a caramelised finish. The sweetness here reads as added rather than oak-derived, so it is best taken for what it is, a gentle and syrupy sipper for those with a sweet tooth or a partner for dessert, rather than a rum to scrutinise for cask nuance. Honesty serves it better than pretending otherwise.
