Description
Single malt Teaninich, bottled by The Barreliers matured to 6 year old from 2013, drawn from cask 399 and bottled at 61.2%. A release of 295 bottles. Teaninich was built in 1817 in the northern Highlands at Alness, and it is rarely seen as a single malt in its own right. Fat copper stills add an oily texture to the clean, grassy spirit.
The spirit was run from a clear wort through the distillery's tall stills, to build a clean, waxy, grassy character. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the green character to the fore. Younger here, it keeps a clean, grassy freshness over a waxy texture. The ultra clear wort from the mash filter is the source of the green, grassy character. A long fermentation of around 75 hours builds the fresh, fruity notes. Filled spirit is tankered away to mature in Diageo's central warehouses. The name comes from the Gaelic for house on the hill, a nod to the old estate.
At a natural 61.2% it is full and oily. A fresh, oily grassiness meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. A green fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A clean, gently waxy finish lingers. This is a light, grassy Highland single malt.
