Description
Bottled by Signatory Vintage, this Teaninich, a 35 year old release from 1983, drawn from cask 8070 and bottled at 57.5%. A release of 575 bottles. Teaninich was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro in the northern Highlands at Alness, and it sends almost all of its make to blends. Single malt is rare; the Flora and Fauna 10 year old is the only regular official bottling.
The spirit was run from a clear wort through the distillery's tall stills, to build a clean, waxy, grassy character. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the grass lead. At over forty years it is rich and waxy, tropical fruit, honey and old oak over a green thread. Refill oak lets the green, grassy distillery character lead. Filled spirit is tankered away to mature in Diageo's central warehouses. The name comes from the Gaelic for house on the hill, a nod to the old estate. By the 1970s Teaninich was already one of the largest distilleries in Scotland.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.5%, it is rich. A fresh, oily grassiness meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. A green fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A long, oily finish carries a green lift. This is a light, grassy Highland single malt.
