Description
This Teaninich was bottled by Le Gus't, a 16 year old Highland malt from 2008, drawn from cask 706285 and bottled at 53.7%. Just 190 bottles were filled. Set at Alness in Easter Ross, Teaninich has distilled since 1817. It is the only Scotch malt distillery to mash through a mash filter rather than a mash tun.
It was worked through the distillery's stills from a very clear wort, for the light, grassy, oily make Teaninich is known for. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Past a decade the grass deepens, the wax and a soft honey building over green fruit. The ultra clear wort from the mash filter is the source of the green, grassy character. That ultra clear wort is the source of Teaninich's fragrant, green tea grassiness. Teaninich Castle nearby, once the family seat, is now a hotel and restaurant. Robert Innes Cameron, an Elgin blender, became sole owner in 1904.
At a hearty 53.7% it carries real weight. A fresh, oily grassiness meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. The texture is light and oily, the grass threaded with honey. The finish runs fresh, green and oily. This is a light, grassy Highland single malt.
