Bottled by Claxton's, this Teaninich, aged 10 year old from 2015, drawn from cask EXP1088 and bottled at 50%. Teaninich was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro in the northern Highlands at Alness, and it sends almost all of its make to blends. In 1887 it became the first distillery north of Inverness with electricity and a telephone.

The spirit was run from a clear wort through the distillery's tall stills, to build a clean, waxy, grassy character. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. At a youthful age the green tea and citrus run bright. The unpeated spirit lets the wood and the green fruit speak without smoke. By the 1970s Teaninich was already one of the largest distilleries in Scotland. The River Averon runs beside the distillery on its way to the firth. A long fermentation builds the fresh, green fruit the blenders prize. A 2013 expansion added a new six still house, more than doubling capacity.

At a natural 50% it is full and oily. Grass, pear and a gentle wax meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and grass sit behind the sweetness. It finishes clean, fresh and grassy. This is Teaninich's clean, grassy Highland style.
